Most of the offers displayed on Kelkoo comes from feeds sent by (or retrieved from) merchants; that means managing millions of offers on the back-end systems, including on the search platform. However, for specific categories, we need access to real-time inventories to provide the most accurate results to users – that’s especially true for the Travel categories like Flight or Hotel. For those categories, the front-end retrieves the offers from the merchant websites in real-time; and it may take several minutes to retrieve all offers corresponding to the user’s query, depending on the speed and responsiveness of each merchant site. Therefore Kelkoo has to provide a user interface that is smart enough to make the user understand it takes time to retrieve and display all offers, still that lets him/her view and interact with the first offers without waiting for 3 or 5 minutes to get all offers.
This week, we re-launched our Flight and Hotel services with such an improved user interface:
From a personal perspective, this was my first project as manager of the Kelkoo web development team; and it makes me realize how the front-end development has dramatically changed in the last 2 or 3 years!!
