Remember Retrevo, the vertical search for electronic goods? As announced on their blog, they’ve just launched an important upgrade that target buyers. When you launch a query on a generic term (“digital camera“, “camcorder“), the first results are buying guides. When you launch a query on specific products (“sony bravia“), results are classified using the new “shop” and “daily deals” sections.
This is a logical move from Retrevo, and the way it is implemented is quite good: they didn’t try to build their own comparison engine, but really on their search solution and their own algorithms to display results from shopping engines and merchants.
