Photo n°3732 - Shipwreck at Motueka
Read on www.panoramio.com/photo/1200205 : Fishing vessel Janie Seddon. One of two submarine minelaying vessels brought out from England in 1903, the Janie Seddon was based in Wellington and its twin, the Lady Roberts was based in Auckland. She was used in port during both world wars and was the Examination Vessel at Wellington during WW2. About 1936 Janie Seddon was purchased by Talleys Fisheries as their first vessel. After being reqisitioned back by the Navy for the duration of WW2 she was returned to her owners and went back fishing after the war but never successful. Towed onto mud flats and abandoned at Motueka early 1950's. In 2008 she remains a rusting hulk on the Motueka foreshore near Talleys headquarters.
